My Story

Why LSU?

During my earlier time in Utica, I wasn’t interested in Greek life at all. I was focused on all the wrong things. But even then, LSU came to me—they wanted me to join. Everything was going fine until I hit rock bottom. That was the moment I needed people, friends, or even brothers the most. With no hesitation, the brothers brought me in and helped me get back on track with my life. That’s when I knew—I had to be a part of this brotherhood.

What’s special about Onyota?

I knew what was at stake that semester. I’m grateful the chapter believed in me and gave me the opportunity to pledge. Throughout my process, I constantly reminded myself why I was doing it: to save myself and to save the chapter. After learning everything the chapter had accomplished, I knew I couldn’t let it all fade away. So I took it upon myself to be the first-born solo of the chapter—the one person our entire future relied on. And knowing that only motivated me more.

This was before we had even established our chapter motto—but somehow, I was already living it.

How can you relate to the chapter motto?

Being the so-called “middle child,” I’ve come to understand the responsibility it carries. I’m the bridge between the old and the new. When I joined the brotherhood, I changed the dynamic of the chapter by introducing strolling—real strolling—to a campus where it never existed before. But even while innovating, I embodied everything we already were.

Over the past seven years, I’ve worked diligently for the betterment of our chapter and fraternity. From teaching newer brothers the ins and outs, to holding regional positions, to now simply offering my opinions and seeing them genuinely received—that’s been the sweetest joy. Even though those times have passed, if you know, you know.

It’s shown me that I am changing the world—slowly, but surely.
